Vintage Moroccan Boucherouite Rug-Bert-2'5"x5'7"

The Hand of Fatima is found all over Morocco, including this rug! It's the symbol of feminine energy and is thought to ward off negative energy. Symbolism is very important in Moroccan culture, and this rug was likely woven to ward off evil spirits from the home and protect the family.

  • Size:  2'5"x5'7"/30x68"/76x172 cm
  • Material: Cotton
  • Colors: White, red, yellow, blue, pink, coffee
  • Age/Condition Good condition. This rug is a vintage piece from 30-40 years ago, which has been professionally cleaned and repaired, but please expect one-of-a-kind imperfections that add to their wonderful history.
The boucherouite rug is a new invention in the long history of the Moroccan Berber rug, where whimsy meets the humble "rag rug." These rugs are made from recycled fibers and can include cotton, wool, or synthetics. Designs are most often asymmetrical, with a color explosion that befits the wall of a modern home, rather than the dusty landscape of their origin. They are indeed a work of art, each unique to the weaver and the region, and there are no two rugs alike.
