Turkish kilim rugs are flat weave rugs that hail from the area that is the former Persian empire. They are woven from both wool and cotton, though they can also just have wool as well. Kilims are different from other carpets and rugs in that they have a very flat weave, without any pile. Kilims are typically woven with a slit weave technique, which leaves a gap between blocks of colors. The designs vary over time include motifs that can represent an idea, convey a message, or tell a story.
